In April 2001, the election of president was held in the Liberal Democratic. Because a prime minister, Mori Yoshiro resigned. Koizumi Junichiro run for the election with Hashimoto Ryutaro, Aso Taro, and Kamei Shizuka. Koizumi run with support of Mori group, Kato group, and Yamazaki group. Tanaka Makiko who was popular between housewives helped him.
At first, citizens thought that Hashimoto was strong. However colorful fight of election was unfolded by Koizumi with Tanaka Makiko. Koizumi said he broke the Liberal Democratic. Also, he said pople criticized his politics were resistant force. Like this he harangued, and about ten thousand people gathered in his speech.
On the 24th of April, Koizumi was elected as to be the President of the LDP. On the 26th of April, He was become a prime minister. When a cabinet headed by Koizumi started, the approval rating showed 87.1%. Also, the worst rating was 78%. In other words, he was the most popular prime minister since the WW2 was end.
